Rafael Cabral Barbosa (born May 20, 1990 in Sorocaba , Brazil ) is a Brazilian soccer player who is currently under contract with Reading FC .

Club career

Rafael was trained in the youth academy of FC Santos . He made his debut for the first team in an official game on June 2, 2010 against Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte . In this game that ended 0-0, Rafael kept his box clean.

On August 20, he suffered bleeding in his right eye in the Série A game against Corinthians São Paulo after colliding with Juan Manuel Martínez . After a long break in treatment, he was finally able to continue the game. Santos won 3-2.

On June 28, 2013 Rafael was sold to the Italian first division club SSC Napoli for a transfer fee of five million euros . He made his debut in a 2-0 win over Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League group stage . Napoli was able to win this game but dropped out behind Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund in the group stage.

In August 2019 he moved to the English second division club Reading FC . There he became the new goalkeeper.

In the national team

He made his debut for Brazil on May 30, 2012 in a 4-1 win over the USA .

Rafael was slated for the Brazilian squad at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London but had to pass after just one game due to an injury.
