The Carnes Crag is an approximately 1310 m high cliff in the East Antarctic Victoria Land . At the northwest end of the Lanterman Range in the Bowers Mountains, it towers over the site of the confluence of the Sledgers and Rennick Glaciers .
The area was mapped by the United States Geological Survey and aerial photography by the United States Navy between 1960 and 1962. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the cliff in 1970 after James J. Carnes of the US Navy, assistant to the chief electrical engineer at McMurdo Station in the winter of 1967.
