Tyler Shaan Adams (born February 14, 1999 in Wappingers Falls , New York ) is an American football player . The midfielder has been under contract with German Bundesliga club RB Leipzig since January 2019 . He is also a national team player in his home country.

Career

Beginnings in the United States

Adams began his career with the New York Red Bulls . In March 2015 he got a contract with the farm team , the New York Red Bulls II , in the United Soccer League . He made his USL debut in April 2015 when he was substituted on for Connor Lade against Toronto FC II in the 67th minute . In May 2015, he started against FC Montréal for the first time.

In November 2015, Adams got a contract with the New York Red Bulls MLS team. In March 2016, he was also eligible to play for the New York Red Bulls II in the United Soccer League . He was therefore able to make his MLS debut in April 2016 when he started against the San José Earthquakes and was replaced by Sacha Klještan at half-time . In October 2016 he was used for the last time for the New York Red Bulls II; with the team he was able to win the USL Cup that season.

In the 2017 season , Adams made 24 appearances in the MLS and three more in the play-offs, where they failed in the quarter-finals at Toronto FC .

In the following season, the Red Bulls reached the play-offs again, but had to admit defeat in the semifinals of the Eastern Conference to the eventual finalists Atlanta United .

Move to Germany

On January 1, 2019, Adams moved to the Bundesliga for RB Leipzig . He signed a contract that ran until June 30, 2023. On January 27, 2019, Adams was in the starting line-up for his Bundesliga premiere in a 4-1 away win in Düsseldorf .

His contract in Leipzig runs until 2025. On August 13, 2020, he scored the winning goal against Atlético Madrid , which enabled Leipzig to move into the Champions League semi-finals.

National team

Adams played for the US U17s for the first time in 2014 . In 2015 he took part in the World Cup with that selection , but where they were the last in Group A to be eliminated in the group stage.

In 2016 he made his debut for the U20 team . With the US U20 he took part in the 2017 CONCACAF championship , which they won, and the World Cup, where they failed in the quarter-finals against Venezuela .

He made his senior national team debut in November 2017 when he started a friendly against Portugal .
