The playoffs for the Stanley Cup of 1959 began on March 24, 1959 and ended on April 18, 1959 with the Canadiens de Montréal's 4-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs . The Canadiens won their eleventh title and the fourth in a row, which they set a new record, which they improved in the following year with the fifth success. In addition, Dickie Moore was the top scorer this post-season . The Maple Leafs, on the other hand, played their first final since 1951 , in which they again defeated the Canadiens 4-1.

mode

The four best teams in the league qualified for the playoffs. In the semi-finals, the first and third as well as the second and fourth of the final table faced each other. The respective winners then contested the Stanley Cup final.

All series were held in best-of-seven mode , which means that a team needed four wins to advance. The higher seeded team had home rights in the first two games, the next two the opposing team. If no winner has emerged from the round by then, the home law changed from game to game. The higher-ranked team had a home advantage in games 1, 2, 5 and 7, i.e. four of the maximum seven games.

Overtime followed for games that remained tied after 60 minutes of regular playing time . It ended with the first goal scored ( Sudden Death ) .
