Gerald Joseph "Gerry" Ehman (born November 4, 1932 in Cudworth , Saskatchewan ; † March 21, 2006 in Saskatoon , Saskatchewan) was a Canadian ice hockey player who, during his active time from 1951 to 1971, among others for the Boston Bruins , Detroit Red Wings , Toronto Maple Leafs and Oakland Seals / California Golden Seals in the National Hockey League .
Career
Gerry Ehman began his career as a hockey player with the Flin Flon Bombers, for which he was active in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League in the 1951/52 season . In the following season he made his professional ice hockey debut when he played for the Edmonton Flyers in the Western Hockey League and for the St. Louis Flyers in the American Hockey League . This was followed by two seasons in the Quebec Hockey League with the Sherbrook Saints and the Quebec Aces , before the attacker returned to the WHL for the 1955/56 season, where he received a contract with the Vancouver Canucks . In the summer of 1956 Ehman was committed by the AHL club Springfield Indians , for their cooperation partner, the Boston Bruins , he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 1957/58 season , scoring a goal in his only use.
On May 1, 1958, Ehman was given by the Indians in exchange for Hank Bassen , Dennis Olson and Bill McCreary to the Detroit Red Wings , for which he only played six games in the NHL, before joining Detroit's league rivals, the Toronto Maple, in December Leafs , was transferred. He also came in the 1958/59 season on 23 missions for the Hershey Bears , which later won the Calder Cup . With the Maple Leafs, the Canadian reached the final of the Stanley Cup in 1959 and 1960 , in which he and his team were each defeated by the record winner Montréal Canadiens . Until 1967 Ehman played almost exclusively for Toronto's AHL farm team, the Rochester Americans , with whom he won the Calder Cup in 1965 and 1966, respectively. In addition, the Maple Leafs called the winger in the 1963/64 season, in which he won the John B. Sollenberger Trophy as the best scorer of the AHL, to the finals of the Stanley Cup in their NHL team, in which he was with the team from Ontario prevailed against the Detroit Red Wings.
In the summer of 1967 Ehman left the Toronto Maple Leafs franchise and joined the newly formed California Seals through a transfer in which he was exchanged for Bryan Hextall and Jean-Paul Parisé . In 1971, the Canadian ended his career at the club, which started under the name California Golden Seals in the 1970/71 season.
