Bryan Lee Hextall junior (born May 23, 1941 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played 567 games for the New York Rangers , Pittsburgh Penguins , Atlanta Flames , Detroit Red Wings and during his playing career between 1962 and 1978 Minnesota North Stars has played in the National Hockey League on the position of the center .
Career
Hextall came - although his father of the same name was one of the best players in the National Hockey League in the 1940s - to ice hockey late. After he had played between 1958 and 1961 in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League , he came to the Kitchener-Waterloo Beavers in the Eastern Professional Hockey League for the 1961/62 season . There he drew attention to the New York Rangers from the NHL, who signed him for the following season. After 21 games in the 1962/63 season , they pushed the striker from but in the American Hockey League , where he played for the Baltimore Clippers until the summer of 1965 .
Then Hextall moved to the Vancouver Canucks in the Western Hockey League for two years . Since his NHL game rights were still with the New York Rangers, he was selected in the 1967 NHL Expansion Draft by the California Seals . This transferred him but before the start of the 1967/68 season with Jean-Paul Parisé to the Toronto Maple Leafs , who in return secured the services of Gerry Ehman . Just as little as for the Seals, Hextall did not come into play with the Maple Leafs in the NHL. They immediately sent him to the Rochester Americans in the AHL after the transfer deal , with whom he won the Calder Cup . Since the Rochester Americans were bought by the Vancouver Canucks before the beginning of the following season, Hextall inevitably returned to the team for which he was active for two years before the expansion draft. After a third year there in the WHL, they transferred the attacker to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL before the 1969/70 season .
With the Penguins, Hextall finally made the breakthrough in the NHL and played for the franchise until January 1974 , before he got to the Atlanta Flames via the waiver . As a result, Hextall was transferred twice and so came first in June 1975 to the Detroit Red Wings and after only half a year there to the Minnesota North Stars . After the 1975/76 season he ended his career.
