The playoffs for the Stanley Cup the year 1962 began on 27 March 1962 and ended on 22 April 1962 with the 4: 2 victory of the Toronto Maple Leafs against the Chicago Blackhawks . The Maple Leafs won their first title since 1951 and the tenth in their franchise history , while this also marked the first of three successive successes. The Black Hawks, on the other hand, who took part in these playoffs as the reigning Stanley Cup winners, had the best scorer in Stan Mikita and the top scorer in Bobby Hull of the post-season. Mikita set a new NHL record with 21 points, previously held by Gordie Howe with 20 points from 1955 .
mode
The four best teams in the league qualified for the playoffs. In the semi-finals, the first and third as well as the second and fourth of the final table faced each other. The respective winners then contested the Stanley Cup final.
All series were held in best-of-seven mode , which means that a team needed four wins to advance. The higher seeded team had home rights in the first two games, the next two the opposing team. If no winner has emerged from the round by then, the home law changed from game to game. The higher-ranked team had a home advantage in games 1, 2, 5 and 7, i.e. four of the maximum seven games.
Overtime followed for games that remained tied after 60 minutes of regular playing time . It ended with the first goal scored ( Sudden Death ) .
