The playoffs for the Stanley Cup in 1957 began on March 26, 1957 and ended on April 16, 1957 with the 4-1 victory of the Canadiens de Montréal against the Boston Bruins . The Canadiens won their second title in a row and the ninth in franchise history, drawing level with the Toronto Maple Leafs as the record winners of the Stanley Cup. In addition, they provided Bernie Geoffrion as the top scorer and top scorer in these playoffs. The Boston Bruins, however, lost after 1946 and 1953, the third final in a row with the final result of 1: 4 against Montréal.

mode

The four best teams in the league qualified for the playoffs. In the semi-finals, the first and third as well as the second and fourth of the final table faced each other. The respective winners then contested the Stanley Cup final.

All series were held in best-of-seven mode , which means that a team needed four wins to advance. The higher seeded team had home rights in the first two games, the next two the opposing team. If no winner has emerged from the round by then, the home law changed from game to game. The higher-ranked team had a home advantage in games 1, 2, 5 and 7, i.e. four of the maximum seven games.

Overtime followed for games that remained tied after 60 minutes of regular playing time . It ended with the first goal scored ( Sudden Death ) .
