The playoffs for the Stanley Cup in 1947 began on March 25, 1947 and ended on April 19, 1947 with the 4-2 victory of the Toronto Maple Leafs over the Canadiens de Montréal . For Toronto, this marked the sixth title and the second in the last three years. The defeated Canadiens, on the other hand, who took part in these playoffs as defending champions, provided Maurice Richard as the top scorer and top scorer of this post-season . In addition, both teams formed the first all-Canadian Stanley Cup final since 1935, when the Montreal Maroons beat the Maple Leafs 3-0.

mode

The four best teams in the league qualified for the playoffs. In the semi-finals, the first and third as well as the second and fourth of the final table faced each other. The respective winners then contested the Stanley Cup final.

All series were held in best-of-seven mode , which means that a team needed four wins to advance. The higher seeded team had home rights in the first two games, the next two the opposing team. If no winner has emerged from the round by then, the home law changed from game to game. The higher-ranked team had a home advantage in games 1, 2, 5 and 7, i.e. four of the maximum seven games.

Overtime followed for games that remained tied after 60 minutes of regular playing time . It ended with the first goal scored ( Sudden Death ) .
