location

Leistenstraße lies between Nikolausberg with the pilgrimage church of the Visitation of Mary or Käppele in the south and the vineyards of the Innere Leiste in the north, which rise behind the houses with an even number to the Marienberg Fortress .

history

In August 1895 the Ludwigsbrücke (Lion Bridge) over the Main was opened to traffic. As a result, the strip road was laid out. In this and Mergentheimer Strasse, a number of apartment buildings were built on the west bank of the Main. Based on the Bavarian Monument Protection Act of October 1, 1973, 14 high-quality apartment buildings in this area were entered in the Bavarian Monument List. In the 20th century, the Nikolausberg south of Leistenstrasse was also built on with villas and houses of student associations .
