Sung Min Song

Sung Min Song (* before 1985 in Seoul ) is a South Korean opera and concert singer (tenor) who works in Germany.

Life

Training and initial engagements

Sung Min Song initially worked as a computer engineer and began to study singing in Korea at the age of 26 on the advice of his church choir director. From 2011 he was able to continue his studies at the University of Music and Theater Munich and at the same time participate in the choir of the Bavarian State Opera from the 2012/2013 season . He studied from 2011 to 2015 in the master class of Frieder Lang , and in the academic year 2014/15 Belcanto with Daniel Kotlinski. Following his studies, he soon appeared as an internationally sought-after soloist in important works of oratorio literature and in opera galas. Sung Min Song has been a permanent member of the ensemble at the Saarland State Theater in Saarbrücken since the 2017/2018 season . Right at the beginning of this engagement he mastered the demanding role of Arnold in Rossini's Guillaume Tell ; this opera production was recorded by Arte Concert and was available as a video stream for half a year.

Artistic development

In 2016 the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation broadcast Rossini's “Stabat Mater” with the Bamberg Symphony under the baton of Alain Altinoglu , in 2018 he sang Verdi's “Messa da Requiem” at the Rheingau Music Festival and in the Herkulessaal of the Munich Residenz on the occasion of a memorial concert for Enoch zu Guttenberg under the Head of Kent Nagano . In 2019 he sang “Guillaume Tell (Arnold)” in Erl in the Tyrolean Festival under the direction of Michael Güttler. In 2019 MDR Kultur broadcast Puccini's “Messa di Gloria” with the MDR Symphony Orchestra and MDR Radio Choir under the direction of Domingo Hindoyan in the Gewandhaus.

The artist has been honored with numerous awards in competitions, such as second prize at the Richard Strauss singing competition, Anneliese Rothenberger Prize, Gasteig Music Prize, Luitpold Prize of the Kissinger Summer, 33 ° Concorso Internazionale Valsesia Musica 3rd prize, second prize at Hariclea Darclée Festival International Voice Competition and Grand Prix and Prix Special ADAMI at the Concours International de Belcanto Vincenzo Bellini in Paris.

Sung min Song was accompanied by ensembles such as the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln, MDR-Sinfonieorchester, Münchner Rundfunkorchester, Bamberg Symphony, Orquesta de Valencia, Orchester Philharmonique de Marseille, Orchester symphonique et lyrique de Nancy - under the direction of conductors like Kent Nagano, Alain Altinoglu, Domingo Hindoyan, Rani Calderon, Lawrence Foster, Enoch zu Guttenberg, Sebastian Rouland, Ulf Schirmer, Yaron Traub, Michael Güttler.
