Alain Altinoglu (born October 9, 1975 in Paris ) is a French conductor of Armenian descent.

Life

Alain Altinoglu began his musical education at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris . After completing his studies at the Conservatory, he taught there for ten years and took over the conducting class in 2014.

Alain Altinoglu made his successful debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker in September 2017 and appeared as conductor of the Vienna Philharmonic at the Mozart Week in January 2018 . As a guest conductor, he regularly leads orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra , Boston Symphony , Chicago Symphony , Philadelphia Orchestra , Cleveland Orchestra , City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra , London Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra , Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra , Staatskapelle Dresden , Staatskapelle Berlin , Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin , Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks , Radio Symphonieorchester Wien , Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich as well as the leading Paris orchestras.

Alain Altinoglu is a guest at major opera houses around the world. In addition to the Metropolitan Opera New York, Royal Opera House Covent Garden , Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, Vienna State Opera , Zurich Opera House , Deutsche Oper Berlin , Unter den Linden State Opera , Bavarian State Opera Munich and the three Parisian opera locations, he is a regular guest at the Bayreuth Festival , Salzburg , Orange and Aix-en-Provence .

Alain Altinoglu conducted for the first time in 2011 as a guest at the Brussels Opera House La Monnaie . In September 2015, La Monnaie announced his appointment as chief conductor of the house from January 2016. In the 2017/18 season Altinoglu conducted new productions of Wagner's Lohengrin and Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites , both directed by Olivier Py , as well as Bartók's The Wonderful Mandarin and Duke Bluebeard's Castle , in a new double performance staged by Christophe Coppens.

Alain Altinoglu also devotes himself to song singing. He regularly accompanies the mezzo-soprano Nora Gubisch, his wife, on the piano.

His connection to the Festival de Radio France et Montpellier has led to both world premieres and first recordings of operas, including Pascal Dusapin's Perelà, uomo di fumo , Édouard Lalos Fiesque (2006) and the French premiere of Bernard Herrmann's Wuthering Heights .

From the 2021/2022 season, Altinoglu will initially be chief conductor of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra for a period of three years .
