The playoffs for the Stanley Cup in 1945 began on March 20, 1945 and ended on April 22, 1945 with the Toronto Maple Leafs' 4-3 victory over the Detroit Red Wings . The Maple Leafs won their fifth title in franchise history , with the final being the reissue of the 1942 final and ending with the same result. The Red Wings, meanwhile, in the person of Joe Carveth, the best scorer of the playoffs. In addition, the 1945 Stanley Cup final marked the first time in league history that the Stanley Cup was won in a seventh game by the visiting team. This has only happened again in 1971 , 2009 and 2011 until today (as of playoffs 2020) .
mode
The four best teams in the league qualified for the playoffs. In the semi-finals, the first and third as well as the second and fourth of the final table faced each other. The respective winners then contested the Stanley Cup final.
All series were held in best-of-seven mode , which means that a team needed four wins to advance. The higher seeded team had home rights in the first two games, the next two the opposing team. If no winner has emerged from the round by then, the home law changed from game to game. The higher-ranked team had a home advantage in games 1, 2, 5 and 7, i.e. four of the maximum seven games.
Overtime followed for games that remained tied after 60 minutes of regular playing time . It ended with the first goal scored ( Sudden Death ) .
