The playoffs for the Stanley Cup in 1967 began on April 6, 1967 and ended on May 2, 1967 with the 4-2 victory of the Toronto Maple Leafs against the Canadiens de Montréal . The Maple Leafs won their 13th title in franchise history and their fourth in the last six years. In addition, they put in Jim Pappin the top scorer as well as in the person of Dave Keon to the Conn Smythe Trophy winning Most Valuable Player of this post-season . The defeated Canadiens, however, missed the third Stanley Cup victory in a row, while they played the first all-Canadian final since 1960 with the Maple Leafs . The next of this kind would not follow until 1986 .
For Toronto, the playoffs from 1967 to today (as of the 2019 playoffs) mark the last Stanley Cup success and the last participation in the finals. Together with the St. Louis Blues , which were only founded in the same year, they therefore hold the negative record for most seasons in a row without a title win.
mode
The four best teams in the league qualified for the playoffs. In the semi-finals, the first and third as well as the second and fourth of the final table faced each other. The respective winners then contested the Stanley Cup final.
All series were held in best-of-seven mode , which means that a team needed four wins to advance. The higher seeded team had home rights in the first two games, the next two the opposing team. If no winner has emerged from the round by then, the home law changed from game to game. The higher-ranked team had a home advantage in games 1, 2, 5 and 7, i.e. four of the maximum seven games.
Overtime followed for games that remained tied after 60 minutes of regular playing time . It ended with the first goal scored ( Sudden Death ) .
