The playoffs for the Stanley Cup in 1943 began on March 21, 1943 and ended on April 8, 1943 with the 4-0 victory of the Detroit Red Wings over the Boston Bruins . The Red Wings won their third title and their first since 1937 . At the same time they played their third final in a row after they had to accept a final defeat in each of the last two years; in 1941 even with the same result (0: 4) against Boston. In addition, they had with Carl Liscombe the top scorer of the playoffs in their ranks.

The 1943 playoffs were the first in the era of the Original Six and were therefore accompanied by a different mode, so from now on only four instead of six teams qualified for the post-season .

mode

The four best teams in the league qualified for the playoffs. In the semi-finals, the first and third as well as the second and fourth of the final table faced each other. The respective winners then contested the Stanley Cup final.

All series were held in best-of-seven mode , which means that a team needed four wins to advance. The higher seeded team had home rights in the first two games, the next two the opposing team. If no winner has emerged from the round by then, the home law changed from game to game. The higher-ranked team had a home advantage in games 1, 2, 5 and 7, i.e. four of the maximum seven games.

Overtime followed for games that remained tied after 60 minutes of regular playing time . It ended with the first goal scored ( Sudden Death ) .
