Ronald John Edward "Ron" Ellis (born January 8, 1945 in Lindsay , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 1,104 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League (NHL ) has contested on the position of the right winger . With the Maple Leafs he won the Stanley Cup in 1967 .
Career
Ron Ellis began his career as a hockey player with the Toronto Marlboros , for whom he played from 1960 to 1964 in the Ontario Hockey Association and with whom he won the Memorial Cup in his last season there in 1964 . In the 1963/64 season , the winger made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Toronto Maple Leafs , with whom he won the prestigious Stanley Cup in 1967 . After the 1974/75 season , Ellis first announced the end of his career. However, in 1977 - after a two-year hiatus - he returned to the Maple Leafs, for which he was on the ice for four more years until 1981. During his time with the Maple Leafs, Ellis took part in the NHL All-Star Game four times .
After the final end of his career in 1981, Ellis first opened a sporting goods store. From 1986 Ellis suffered from depression, which led him to publish the book Over the boards: The Ron Ellis story together with Kevin Shea in 2002 . Ellis also served as the Director of Public Relations for the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto .
International
For Canada , Ellis took part in the 1972 Summit Series and the 1977 Ice Hockey World Championship in the Austrian capital of Vienna .
