Career

Marshall spent his junior years between 1949 and 1952 with the Canadien junior de Montréal in the Ligue de hockey junior Québec . The striker won the Memorial Cup in 1950 with the Junior Canadiens from his hometown . While he was running in the junior division, he made his debut for the Canadiens de Montréal in the National Hockey League during the 1950/51 season . The attacker made his complete change to the professional field in the summer of 1952, thereby ending his involvement in American football and baseball .

Among the pros, Marshall ran in his freshman year for the Cincinnati Mohawks in the International Hockey League . The winger won the Turner Cup with the Mohawks at the end of the 1952/53 season . he was also awarded the James Gatschene Memorial Trophy as the most valuable player in the league and was appointed to the league's First All-Star team. In the following season Marshall ran for the Buffalo Bisons in the American Hockey League . There he was given the Dudley "Red" Garrett Memorial Award as the best newcomer to the league again individually. At the beginning of the game year 1954/55 Marshall was finally firmly in the squad of the Canadiens de Montréal, which he belonged to the end of the 1962/63 season. During that time, the striker won the Stanley Cup five times in a row with the Canadiens between 1956 and 1960 . He was also invited to the NHL All-Star Game six times .

After the successful era of the Montréal Canadiens had come to an end, the franchise ventured a fresh start in the summer of 1963, whereby Marshall was given to the New York Rangers along with Jacques Plante and Phil Goyette . They let Dave Balon , Léon Rochefort , Len Ronson and Gump Worsley move to Montréal. In the Rangers jersey, the defensive striker spent another seven years in the NHL and took part in the All-Star Game for the seventh time in 1968 . He was also appointed to the NHL Second All-Star Team at the end of the 1966/67 season . In the summer of 1970, the Rangers inevitably parted ways with their player as he was selected in the 1970 NHL Expansion Draft by the newly formed Buffalo Sabers . Although Marshall was the team's fourth-best scorer at the end of the 1970/71 season , the Sabers lost him in October 1971 by the Intra-League Draft to the Toronto Maple Leafs . The now 39-year-old spent his last NHL season there and ended his active career in the summer of 1972.
