The 1970 NHL Expansion Draft was held on June 9, 1970 by the National Hockey League . The draft had become necessary because the league was increased by two teams before the 1970/71 season with the Buffalo Sabers and the Vancouver Canucks .

regulate

Since the squads of the two new franchises had to be filled with players, it was necessary that the two new teams were allowed to select players from the existing NHL teams. However, the 12 old NHL teams had the right to block a certain number of players, i.e. not make them available for this election, so that they could keep their star players.
