The 1951/52 NHL season was the 35th season in the National Hockey League . Six teams played 70 games each. The Stanley Cup won the Detroit Red Wings after a 4-0 win in the final series against the Montréal Canadiens . In this final series, an octopus was thrown on the ice for the first time in Detroit. The highlight of the disappointing Chicago Black Hawks season was Bill Mosienko's hat trick who scored three goals in just 21 seconds. The Hawks' gate was not as good. After an injury to Harry Lumley , 46-year-old Moe Robert had to help out. He had previously played his last game in the NHL in 1934.
