Josep Martínez Riera (born May 27, 1998 in Alzira ) is a Spanish soccer goalkeeper who is under contract with the UD Las Palmas and will move to Germany for RB Leipzig for the 2020/21 season.

Career

In his youth, Martínez played for the UD Alzira from his hometown in eastern Spain and was accepted into the FC Barcelona youth training center in 2015 . For the club's A-Juniors, he was between the posts in the UEFA Youth League .

In the summer of 2017, the goalkeeper was signed by the UD Las Palmas and used in their third division team . In his first season Martínez was in 25 league games on the field, with his teammate Álex Guanche played in the remaining games. In the following season, the Spaniard was the clear number 1 in goal and only missed seven third division games in which he was in the matchday squad of the first team that was relegated from the Primera División . For the professional team of the UD Las Palmas he came on seven missions in the Segunda División . Under head coach Pepe Mel, he was appointed to the first team in summer 2019. There Martínez was the regular goalkeeper in the first 17 games, but was then replaced by Álvaro Valles .

For the 2020/21 season, the Spaniard is moving to Germany for Bundesliga club RB Leipzig , where he received a four-year contract.

National team

Martínez will take part in the qualification for the 2021 European Championship with the Spanish U21s , but has not yet been used.
