Mauricio Lemos , full name Paolo Mauricio Lemos Merladey , (born December 28, 1995 in Rivera ) is a Uruguayan football player who has been under contract with Fenerbahçe Istanbul since August 2020 .

Career

The 1.84-meter-tall defensive player Mauricio Lemos, who is sometimes also referred to as Paolo Lemos, was part of the squad of the Uruguayan first division team Defensor Sporting , from whose junior team he emerged from the 2013/14 season . After he already belonged to the unused substitution contingent in the first division match against River Plate on December 15, 2013 , coach Fernando Curtuchet ordered him to the first team squad with the start of preparation for the Clausura 2014. In that season he was there twice in the Primera División until the end of the Clausura 2014 (no goal). In the 2014/15 season he was used seven times (no goal) in the top Uruguayan league. At the beginning of July 2015 he was loaned to the Russian club Rubin Kazan . There he played four first division games, two games in the Europa League and one encounter in the national cup competition. He did not score a competitive match. At the end of January 2016 he was loaned to the Spanish club UD Las Palmas with an option to buy until the end of the season. With the Spaniards he was used ten times (no goal) in the Primera División by the end of the season . The Spanish club then withdrew the option to buy at the beginning of May 2016 and contracted Lemos for another five years. In the 2016/17 season, he played 23 first division games (five goals) and three games (no goal) in the Copa del Rey .

In January 2018, Lemos switched to the Italian first division club US Sassuolo Calcio on loan for a year and a half . In August 2020, Lemos moved to the Turkish first division club Fenerbahçe Istanbul for the 2020/21 season and signed a three-year contract there.

National team

Lemos is a member of the Uruguayan U20 national team . At the beginning of July 2012 he was called up to a training course for the U20s by his coach Juan Verzeri . In March 2014, the Verzeri nominated him as the successor coach Fabián Coito . He made his debut in the game on April 15, 2014 against the Chilean selection with a start in the starting lineup and contributed with a goal to the 3-0 victory. In the game against the same opponent on April 17, 2014, he was one of the substitutes, but was not used. In the following period he ran in the games against Paraguay on May 22, 2014 and on August 6, 2014 and on September 22, 2014 against Peru for the U-20 selection. He was a member of the Uruguayan squad at the U20 South American Championship 2015 in Uruguay and at the U20 World Cup 2015 in New Zealand . He made a total of 22 international matches in this age group. He scored two hits.

On May 19, 2015, he was initially nominated by coach Fabián Coito for the provisional U-22 squad at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto . After all, he was on the final squad and won the tournament with the Celeste. So far (as of August 23, 2017) he has played three international matches for the Pan-American team.

In August 2017 he was nominated for the first time for the senior national team of Uruguay for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Paraguay .
