Pedri , real name Pedro González López (born November 25, 2002 in Tegueste , Tenerife ), is a Spanish football player who is under contract with FC Barcelona . He occupies the position of attacking midfielder in the club . He has been a Spanish U19 international since February 2020 .

Beginnings and first professional experience

Pedri moved from CF Juventud Laguna to the youth academy of the UD Las Palmas in 2018 . On July 15, 2019, he signed his first professional contract, which tied him to the club in Gran Canaria for four years . The head coach, Pepe Mel , also promoted him to the first-team squad. On August 18, 2019 (1st matchday), he made his debut in the 0-1 home defeat against SD Huesca at the age of 16 in the second-highest Spanish division . Six days later delivered his first goal participation for Las Palmas with a template in the 1-1 draw against FC Málaga .

On September 19 (6th matchday) of the 2019/20 season, the 16-year-old scored his team in the home game against Sporting Gijón with the decisive goal to make it 1-0 for the first win of the season. In the next few weeks he established himself as a regular on the offensive of Unión Deportiva and maintained this status until the end of the 2019/20 season, in which he scored 4 goals in 36 league appearances (34 times from the start).

Change to FC Barcelona

For the 2020/21 season, Pedri moved to FC Barcelona for a transfer fee of 5 million euros . He already signed a contract in September 2019 until June 30, 2022 with an option for two more years. The release clause mandatory in Spain is 100 million euros and increases to 400 million euros if he receives a contract for the professional team. The UD Las Palmas secured a resale stake of 15 percent. In August 2020, 17-year-old Pedri started small-group training with other players who did not take part in the final tournament of the Champions League .

National team

In September 2019, Pedri was nominated for the U18 for the first time in two international matches against the Qatari U-18 national team . He scored the only goal in the 1-0 win in the first game.
