Miralem Pjanić (born April 2, 1990 in Tuzla , SR Bosnia and Herzegovina , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Bosnian-Herzegovinian football player . The midfielder, who is also a Luxembourg national, plays for FC Barcelona and for the Bosnian-Herzegovinian national team .

Childhood and youth

When Miralem Pjanić was born, his father Fahrudin played for third division club FK Drina Zvornik . A short time later, the family emigrated to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg because the father had received an offer to play football there. Drina Zvornik initially refused to release, but the club president gave approval for the move.

Miralem Pjanić learned to play football in Luxembourg at FC Monnerich . He did not stay there long and moved to FC Schifflingen 95 , where he played in selection teams for 16-year-olds at the age of 13. He was considered very talented, and in 2004 his parents approved him to move to France to join the FC Metz youth academy ( Center de Formation ) .

In the summer of 2007 he was accepted into the professional squad of FC Metz and signed a three-year contract. Pjanić made his professional debut on August 18, 2007 at the age of 17 when he came on as a substitute for Sébastien Renouard on matchday four of Ligue 1 against Paris Saint-Germain in the 70th minute . His performances this season are described as outstanding. He made 32 appearances in Ligue 1 and scored four goals. FC Metz was relegated at the end of the season.

For the 2008/09 season he moved to Olympique Lyon . In his first year he only played five games from the start. After Juninho left in the summer of 2009, the position behind the top became vacant and he became a regular. In the Champions League season 2009/10 Pjanić reached the semifinals with his team, where he had scored the decisive goal in Madrid in the round of 16 game against Real Madrid . Lyon was eliminated in this competition in the semifinals against Bayern Munich . In 2010/11 , his club finished second in this competition in the group stage behind the eventual semi-finalists FC Schalke 04 and was eliminated in the round of 16 against Real Madrid. At the beginning of the 2011/12 season he was used in three league games before signing a contract with AS Roma on August 31, 2011 .

For the 2016/17 season , Pjanić moved to the Italian record champions Juventus Turin , where he signed a contract until 2021, which was extended to 2023 in the summer of 2018.

For the 2020/21 season, Pjanić moved to the Spanish Primera División for FC Barcelona for a transfer fee of 60 million euros, which can be increased by a maximum of 5 million euros . He signed a contract that runs until June 30, 2024, which includes an exit clause of 400 million euros. In return, Arthur moved to Juventus for a transfer fee of 72 million euros, which can be increased by a maximum of 10 million euros through bonus payments.

National team

Pjanić played at the U-17 European Championship in 2006 for Luxembourg , which qualified as host for this tournament. He scored the only goal for Luxembourg during the tournament. In the same year he scored four goals in a game against Belgium that ended 5-5. He had the choice between the Luxembourg, Bosnian and French national teams and decided in 2007 to play for the Bosnian national team. On September 6, 2008 he made his debut in the World Cup qualifier in Murcia against Spain . He was substituted on in the 85th minute; the game won the Spaniards 1-0.
