The Coppa Italia 2016/17 was the 70th edition of the most important Italian cup competition in men's football . It began on July 29, 2016 with the match between AS Livorno and SS Juve Stabia and ended with the final on May 17, 2017 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome . The final was originally scheduled for June 2, 2017, but had to be brought forward as one of the finalists, Juventus Turin, reached the final of the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League on June 3, 2017.
The cup winner qualified for the 2017 Italian Supercup . Juventus Turin started as defending champions.
Framework schedule
The framework dates for the 2016/17 season were announced on May 17, 2016 in Milan . These represent the main day of the round on which the majority of the games will take place. The other games take place on the following days. The games of the eighth and quarter-finals will take place over two weeks, while the semi-finals will include home and away games. In the event that one of the two cup finalists moves into the final of the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League , an alternative date for the final has been set on May 17, 2017.
