The Stadio Arechi is the city's own football stadium in the south of the city of Salerno . The port city of Salerno is located in the province of the same name in the southern Italian region of Campania . It is the sporting home of the US Salernitana football club (formerly: Salernitana Calcio). The name goes back to Arichis II from the 8th century.
history
Construction of the stadium began in 1984 because the Stadio Donato Vestuti from the 1930s was too small and outdated. The arena consists of four single, double-storey reinforced concrete stands and is completely uncovered. There are large parking spaces around the venue. Occasionally there are also concerts in the stadium. In September 1990 the sports facility was inaugurated. The first game on September 9th was played between Salernitana Calcio and Calcio Padova (0-0). The encounter marked the club's return to Serie B after 23 years .
In 1998 Salernitana Calcio rose to Serie A and the system was adapted to the requirements of the first division; as a result, the stadium's capacity fell from 45,000 to 37,500 spectators. There were 205 seats available for journalists in the press box. According to a new law, all stadiums in Italy with more than 10,000 seats in the entrance area must install turnstiles with personalized tickets and have video surveillance. This work took place from February 2007 to April 2008.
After renovation work in 2019, the venue offers 37,180 seats.
