The Stadio Giovanni Zini is a football stadium in the Italian city of Cremona in the same province of the region of Lombardy . It is the home of the US Cremonese football club .

history

The inauguration of the facility took place on September 2, 1929. Today it has a total capacity of 20,034 viewers. For the third-rate Lega Pro Prima Divisione A , the number of spectators is limited to 7,490 for safety reasons. The venue was named in honor of Giovanni Zini, former goalkeeper of the US Cremonese. Zini fell in the First World War . The square in front of the stadium has been called Piazzale Domenico Luzzara since 2007 . Domenico Luzzara (1922-2006) was president of the football club from Cremona from 1967 to 2001.

The main stand of the stadium consists of three roofed-over tiers, which are separated from each other; the middle part is equipped with seats. The opposite stand and the two stands behind the gate are uncovered, stepped concrete structures without plastic seats or breakwaters . Due to the reduction in the permitted capacity, only the seat rank on the main stand and the two ranks behind the goals are currently used. In summer 2007 there were major renovations in the stadium. From July 2nd to August 10th, 60 workers carried out the renovation work. 180 tons of concrete were used and 8.5 tons of paints and varnishes were used. In August 2008 the stadium was upgraded with security technology . There were u. a. 22 turnstile systems were set up at the entrances and a personalized ticket system was installed. In addition, 18 cameras from a video surveillance system are distributed in and around the stadium ; which are controlled from a room in the stands.

The second leg in the final of the Coppa Italia 1988/89 between Sampdoria Genoa and SSC Napoli had to go to the Cremona stadium; because the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Genoa was rebuilt for the 1990 World Cup . Sampdoria beat the SSC 4-0 and the club won their third Italian cup. In addition, Sampdoria played its Serie A games and the European Cup Winners' Cup in Cremona.
