The Stadio Ezio Scida (full name: Stadio Comunale Ezio Scida ; German Municipal Stadium Ezio Scida ) is a football stadium and is located in the southeastern Italian city of Crotone in the same province , in the region of Calabria . The football club FC Crotone meets its opponents here. The stadium currently has 16,108 seats.
history
The city's own stadium with a covered main stand takes its name from a former club player who died in an accident on January 19, 1946. The team bus crashed into a truck on a slippery road the night before a friend's game against Castrovillari Calcio. Captain Ezio Scida was hit by the falling cargo from the truck and died from his injuries. The players of the Castrovillari Calcio club paid for Scida’s funeral out of their own pocket. In addition to FC Crotone, the Achei Crotone American football team, founded in 1989, also plays at Ezio Scida .
Over the years, several renovations changed the appearance of the sports facility. The last time in 1999, when the facility held 5,000 spectators, the stadium was rebuilt and expanded. After that, the main grandstand had 2,336 seats; the opposite stand 2,471 seats; There were 966 places in the north curve and 834 guest places. With the promotion of FC Crotone 2000 to Serie B , the south curve with 2,940 seats was completed. There is also a press stand with 80 seats. Until 2016, the stadium held 9,631 spectators. Since FC Crotone rose to Serie A as champions of Serie B in 2016/17 for the first time in the club's history , the Stadio Ezio Scida was expanded and the capacity increased to 11,640 spectators.
