The Stadio Ciro Vigorito is a football stadium in the Italian city of Benevento , Campania region . It was inaugurated on September 9, 1979 and today seats 16,867 spectators. The local club Benevento Calcio plays its home games here. Until November 2, 2010, the stadium was called Stadio Santa Colomba .
history
The Stadio Ciro Vigorito in Benevento opened when the local club was in its prime. As a member of Serie B, Benevento Calcio was about to move up to Serie A , whereupon the board of course planned a new, larger stadium. But the good times in Benevento were soon over and the club sank into insignificance. The first game in the new stadium took place in 1979 between Benevento Calcio and Juventus Turin . The record crowd was reached in the first league game in the Stadio Ciro Vigorito against Ascoli Calcio with 25,000 spectators. In fact, the stadium is built for 25,000 spectators, the current maximum capacity is 12,847 seats for safety reasons.
The arena consists of two rings, each with a grandstand and two fan curves . There are also around 50 places for journalists . There is space for 5,000 vehicles in the parking lot in front of the stadium. The club, which has recently been on the rise again, is also equipped for evening games, because the Stadio Ciro Vigorito has also had a floodlight system since 1994 . In 2008 and 2017 the stadium was modernized and expanded. For example, the seats in the upper grandstand area were improved, surveillance cameras installed, the press department improved and a new tunnel entrance built for the teams.
