The Westendstraße underground station is located in the west of Munich on trunk line 3 of Munich's underground lines U4 and U5 .
history
The Westendstraße underground station opened on March 10, 1984. Until the opening of the Laimer Platz underground station and the associated extension of the so-called trunk line 3 in a westerly direction in 1988, it was also the start and end station for the U5 line. Since 1999 it has been the end and starting station for the U4 at certain times of the day, and in rush hour and generally during holidays it ends at Theresienwiese , and in the evening at Odeonsplatz . If the U5 were to be extended to Pasing, the U4 would continue to Laimer Platz and not end at Westendstrasse as it does now.
The Westendstraße underground station was named after the street of the same name that used to lead to the western city limits of Munich. Today the border between the Munich districts Sendling-Westpark and Laim is located here .
location
The Westendstraße underground station is located in the west-east direction below Zschokkestraße . The west end of the platform has two exits to the surface, which open up both sides of Zschokkestrasse. The exits at the east end of the platform lead to all four sides of the intersection Zschokkestrasse / Westendstrasse with escalators and fixed stairs. There is also a distribution floor and an elevator to the surface as well as a connection to tram line 18.
Until 1993 there was a tram depot on Westendstrasse; today there is a bus depot of the MVG ( Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft ) here.

layout
A centrally arranged row of columns supports the platform hall . The columns were clad with light blue tiles and decorated with rounded stainless steel edges.
The back rail walls were clad with elongated blue metal panels. The white slats on the ceiling of the platform hall run across the direction of travel in order to avoid glare from the two light strips.
