The Laimer Platz underground station is the final stop of the Munich underground line U5 in the Laim district .

location

The Laimer Platz underground station is located in the Laim district of Munich , whose name "Laim" comes from the loamy soil there. The platform is below Gotthardstrasse , which crosses here with Fürstenrieder Strasse . The four underground station entrances, which are equipped with escalators and fixed stairs, are located at this intersection. In addition, the Laimer Platz underground station has a lift to the mezzanine floor, which opens up the east end of the platform, if desired with another lift. At the Westkopf you can leave the underground station via the mezzanine floor in the direction of Laimer Platz . Laimer Platz is primarily a green area with a bus turning loop.

history

The Laimer Platz underground station opened on March 24, 1988 and is currently the western terminus of the U5 underground line . The U4 underground line also ended at Laimer Platz until 1999, but since then the Westendstraße underground station has been its westernmost stop .

With the Laimer Platz underground station, the residential districts in Laim to the south in particular were better connected to Munich city center, as they are further away from the S-Bahn and only through the U4 and U5 lines an east-west axis in the Munich underground Railway network was built, which runs over the Munich city center. What was new here was that the route was not based on the old Munich tram lines . B. in Laim straight as a bolt under the Zschokke- and Gotthardstraße, which only became a new traffic axis in the post-war period .

layout

Laimer Platz underground station

The pillars of the Laimer Platz underground station are clad in gray granite . The platform ceiling is covered with yellow-greenish panels . The ceiling over the tracks is made of exposed concrete . The back track walls consist of wide white panels between which narrow yellow walkways run, which rise diagonally from the bottom left to the top right.

future

Originally the U5 was to be extended from Laimer Platz in the direction of Pasing . Today it is questionable whether this extension will really come, since Pasing is already connected to Munich city center by four S-Bahn lines and tram line 19 also runs the Pasing – HauptbahnhofOstbahnhof route.
