The Fürstenriederstraße is a 4.5-km long major inner-city link road in Munich . It is named after Fürstenried Castle , which is near its southern end.
Route
Fürstenrieder Strasse leads through the districts of Laim , Sendling-Westpark and Hadern to the northern edge of Fürstenried and forms a section of the only partially completed Outer Ring . Over almost its entire length it is expanded to six lanes with a green median. It is also part of the shortest inner-city connection between the federal motorway 8 (western branch) and the federal motorway 95 .
The street begins on Landsberger Strasse in Laim as the southern continuation of Wotanstrasse. It runs straight to the south, crosses Agnes-Bernauer- and Gotthardstraße and crosses the federal motorway 96 at junction 38. It passes close to the Westpark , from which it is separated by several school buildings ( Erasmus-Grasser-Gymnasium , Ludwigsgymnasium ) . In the further course it leads east past the forest cemetery . It crosses under the federal motorway 95 leading into the city at exit 2 Kreuzhof and turns into Boschetsrieder Straße and thus into a west-east tangential road of the Outer Ring.
history
An avenue-like connecting road between Nymphenburg Palace and Fürstenried Palace used to lead over today's route of Fürstenrieder Strasse . The expansion into an inner-city main thoroughfare began in the 1950s before the Munich general transport plan was drawn up in 1963, in which it was included as part of the Tangente 5-West.
From 1948 to 1966 an O-bus line ran through Fürstenrieder Straße (until 1961 as line O32).
The construction of the tram- west bypass in Fürstenrieder Strasse was decided in summer 2018. Operations are scheduled to begin by 2026.
