The following year he only played in the first half of the season for his Romanian club, then he took advantage of an offer from Italy and initially moved to Lazio Rome on loan . There he was so convincing in Serie A in eleven appearances from February 2008 that the Romans signed the 22-year-old under contract in April for a transfer fee of 4.5 million euros.
