Am Großer Wannsee is a street in the Berlin district of Wannsee ( Steglitz-Zehlendorf district ) in the southwest of the city. It begins on Königstrasse (part of Bundesstrasse 1 ) between house numbers 4b and 5 and leads along the west bank of the Großer Wannsee to the former Reich Air Protection School (house number 80), which later becomes the Heckeshorn Lung Clinic (now: Helios-Klinikum Emil von Behring ; the Heckeshorn Lung Clinic has been in Walterhöferstrasse 11 since 2007. The road essentially follows the shoreline of the Großer Wannsee, but without offering direct access to the lake.
The eastern side of the street (lake side, even house numbers) is characterized by numerous water sports clubs (including the traditional Seglerhaus am Wannsee club ), some of which have quite respectable club facilities (clubhouses, jetties). The properties Am Großen Wannsee 42 / Colomierstraße 3 ( Liebermann-Villa ) and Am Großen Wannsee 56/58 (House of the Wannsee Conference ) are also open to the public. The lakeshore of the Großer Wannsee on the Heckeshorn is only accessible to the general public from house number 60. Here, where the colony passes into the Berlin forest Düppel, a delightful riverside path begins, which leads past the Pfaueninsel , the Moorlake inn, the church of St. Peter and Paul (Nikolskoe) to Glienicke Palace and Glienicke Bridge .
There are numerous bathing areas on the riverside path, which are looked after by the DLRG in summer (Heckeshorn, bathing meadow Alter Hof). Until the junction of the street Am Heckeshorn, the street Am Großen Wannsee is a one-way street in a northerly direction . It thus opens up a large part of the Alsen Colony in terms of traffic . The western side of the street (land side, odd house numbers) is characterized by residential development. Education and meeting center is on the corner Koblanckstraße 10 Clara Sahlberg union ver.di . The BVG bus line 114 runs over the street Am Großen Wannsee, which ensures the connection to Königstraße and the S-Bahn and regional train station Berlin-Wannsee . The street on the Great Wannsee has had this name since April 8, 1933 (1888–1933: Grosse Seestrasse ).
