Johann Hamspohn

Johann Hamspohn (born March 31, 1840 in Cologne , † May 26, 1926 in Berlin ) was an entrepreneur and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Hamspohn attended high school in Cologne and had to complete a commercial apprenticeship at his father's request. As a result, he spent longer in England and France, where he also taught as a German teacher. In Cologne he was a city councilor since 1871, a member of the school board, the board of trustees of the Realschule 1st order and the technical college as well as a member of the board of the trade association. In 1880 he was general secretary of the international teaching congress for Germany that met in Brussels. He was also a member of the liberal school association for Rhineland and Westphalia. Between 1881 and 1887 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives and from 1874 to 1881 of the German Reichstag for the constituency of the Principality of Schaumburg-Lippe ( Bückeburg , Stadthagen ). After retiring from politics, he first worked in international finance and founded the Union Electricity Society in Berlin in 1892 together with the former Reichstag member Ludwig Loewe . They were particularly involved in the electrification of transportation. In 1904 her company had to merge with AEG , where Hamspohn was then on the board of directors until 1910 and then on the supervisory board.

In 1906 he had the Villa Hamspohn built at Am Großen Wannsee 40, where he lived with his wife Marie and daughter Frieda until his death.
