Together with the hosts, they qualified for the second qualifying round. In this round, held in Italy in May 2012 , the Belgians could only win one point against Armenia , but lost against eventual European champions Spain and Italy . Three months earlier he had already been used for the first time in the U-21 team in the qualification for the U-21 European Championship 2013 , but lost to England 4-0. It was his only game in this qualifying round that the Belgians finished third and thus missed the playoffs.
