The Casertana Football Club (formerly US Casertana , GSP Caserta , AS Caserta , AC Caserta , Caserta Calcio and US Casertana 1908 ), shortly FC Casertana , is an Italian football club from Caserta . The club was founded in 1908 and plays its home games in the Stadio Alberto Pinto , which can seat 12,000 spectators. US Casertana currently plays in the Lega Pro , the third highest division in Italy .
history
Today's US Casertana was founded in 1908 under the name Robur Caserta . In 1924 it was renamed US Casertana . Over the years, the club's name has changed several times, since 2008 the club has been renamed US Casertana again , after it had been re-established five years earlier and the Italian federation had given it permission to use its old name again.
Currently, the US plays in the Casertana fünftklassigen Series D . To better times two seasons in Italy's second highest football league was Serie B , played football. Casertana was promoted to Serie B for the first time in the 1969/70 season, when in Serie C the first place in Girona C was occupied with two points ahead of Football Brindisi 1912 . Casertana had already finished first the year before, but lost six points due to proven sporting fraud, so that first place was lost against Taranto Calcio and was not eligible for promotion. After the leap into the second division was successful the following year, Caserta was penultimate in the second division and rose again together with Pisa SC and US Massese . It would then take twenty years, which were marked by many third division seasons and an intermittent crash in Serie D, before Casertana managed to return to Serie B. The 1990/91 season was the last time the club was in the second-highest Italian division, but was immediately relegated. Since then, the club has crashed into Serie D and founded two new companies in 1993 and 2005. Since 2014, the US Casertana has been playing in third class again.
