Giuseppe Materazzi (born January 5, 1946 in Arborea ) is a former Italian football player and coach . He has been a functionary since 2011 .

Career as a player

Born in Sardinia , Materazzi was a long-time player in US Lecce , where he played 228 Serie C games in seven years . During his career he also played for US Tempio, AC Reggiana , AS Bari and Real Cerretese.

Career as a coach

Giuseppe Materazzi began his coaching career in 1979 with the Tuscan team Real Cerretese in Serie C2. His first team in Serie A was AC Pisa in the 1987/88 season , which he brought to 13th place at the end of the season. He then trained for two seasons in Lazio before moving to Serie B for FC Messina . His longest coaching time began in 1992 at AS Bari , where he had previously played and also worked as a youth coach. Materazzi stayed in Bari for four years, two of which the club played in Serie A. He then coached a number of smaller clubs in Serie A and B, including Calcio Padova , Brescia Calcio and Piacenza Calcio , before joining Sporting Lisbon in July 1999 signed. However , he stayed in Portugal for only a few months and was fired in September 1999 after losing the UEFA Cup to Viking Stavanger . In early November was Giuseppe Materazzi by the President of FC Venice , Maurizio Zamparini , called to Luciano Spalletti to replace. After only 27 days, however, he was fired again and again replaced by Spalletti.

In 2003 Giuseppe Materazzi signed a three-year contract with the Chinese club Tianjin Teda , but left the team after a year. His name was associated with the post of national coach of Costa Rica at the time . On February 26, 2007 Materazzi was coach of the Serie B club AS Bari, where he replaced Rolando Maran . He managed to stay up and gave up his post on December 27, 2007 after a 4-0 defeat against US Lecce in the Apulia derby.

On December 30, 2008 Materazzi signed a contract as a coach from the Greek club Olympiakos Volos , but decided to quit on March 6, 2009 because he no longer saw his sporting goals within reach. In July 2009 he became the manager of the Tercera Division Club SE Eivissa-Ibiza , where he worked with coach Onofrio Barone , an ex-Serie A player who has acted as his assistant several times .

In 2010 Materazzi he was obliged by the Romanian club FC Brașov , but gave up his post again after just three days.

In summer 2011, Materazzi was technical director of ASD Atletico Arezzo in Serie D . He gave up this post in March 2012 to take up his work in the Lega Pro Seconda Divisione at Treviso FC . He rose with the club in 2012 but left to work for the Sardinian club Olbia Calcio 1905 . In the summer of 2013 he signed Foggia Calcio , which also played in the Lega Pro Seconda Divisione. At the end of the season, his team qualified for the newly founded Lega Pro . In May 2016 he became technical director of Robur Siena , but gave up this post after a few weeks. Since December 2016 he has been managing director of FC Casertana .

Giuseppe Materazzi is the father of the former defender and world champion Marco Materazzi , who played for Inter Milan for many years .
