technical director

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Technical Director , Chief Technology Officer , Chief Technology Officer ( CTO ) is in the hierarchy of a company , the top technical management person. There are different names depending on the industry. In certain industries, technical issues are also distributed among several people and there is then, for example, a Chief Information Officer and a Chief Science Officer.

In technically oriented companies, the technical manager is often at the top management level and has a significant influence on the product. He directs the technical developments and research of a company and is partly responsible for these on an economic level.

In companies whose products are less tech-savvy, the technical manager optimizes and updates a company's technical equipment. He implements the management's requirements for the technical infrastructure. In this way, the CTO establishes a connection between the users and the IT department. Its main task is to examine new technologies for their suitability and to integrate them into the IT structure if they represent a valuable addition.

The names are just as different as the industries. In the communications or entertainment industry, the English terms Technical Director (TD) or Technical Producer (TP) are more common.

There are similar positions for the executive branch : in Germany the Federal Government Commissioner for Information Technology , in the USA the Chief Technology Officer . The German parliament maintains the office for technology assessment .
