The club was founded in 1926 and plays its home games at Stadio Marcello Torre , which can seat 5,100 spectators. Paganese Calcio 1926 has never played in the first and second Italian leagues and is currently in the Lega Pro , the third highest division in Italy .

history

The Paganese Calcio 1926 Srl association was founded in 1926 under the name US Paganese in the town of Pagani , which now has around 35,000 inhabitants in the province of Salerno in Campania . A football club had already existed in the city before, but FC Pagani , founded in 1912 , was dissolved a few years before the US Paganese was founded.

The newly founded football club spent the first few years in the deepest amateur leagues of regional Italian football. Over the years, the association took part in a number of name changes, from 1929 to 1931 it was called US Fascista Paganese , from 1931 to 1945 AS Pagani , then until 1982 US Paganese . Names like AC Paganese or AS Real Paganese followed , before the name Paganese Calcio 1926 , which is still valid today, was adopted in 2003 .

In the league, the then US Paganese managed to get promoted to Serie D , the fourth highest division of Italian football, for the first time in the summer of 1967 . The Campanian club established itself there immediately, already achieved a strong fifth place in the first year and maintained these good performances in the years that followed. In 1975/76 they finally came first in the Girone G with a lead of five points over Avezzano Calcio . In the first year of the third division Paganese was immediately second, only behind AS Bari , they missed the direct march into Serie B by six points. With this season, however, the high point of the successful period of US Paganese was reached. As a result, things slowly but surely went down again. In 1979 they were relegated to the C2 series , but immediately rose again. Three years later, there was another relegation to the fourth division, from which the club did not immediately recover this time. Only four years after relegation from the C1 series , Paganese went one step down, the club sank into the depths of Campanian regional football for years. This was accompanied by two liquidations, with start-ups that were not much later, which had become necessary in 1989 and 1998 due to accumulated financial problems.

At the beginning of the new millennium Paganese returned to Serie D, and a little later he was promoted to Serie C2. In this one managed 2006/07 after winning playoff games against AC Reggiana the direct march from the fifth to the third division. They stayed there for four years, but were always deeply involved in relegation battle. 2011/12 they returned directly to the Lega Pro Prima Divisione. When the Lega Pro became the new third division in the 2014/15 season and Lega Pro Prima Divisione and Lega Pro Seconda Divisione were combined, Paganese Calcio automatically qualified for this league.
