Giancarlo Vitali (born July 21, 1926 in Medesano , † October 27, 2011 in Noceto ) was an Italian football player and coach .

Athletic career

Vitali made his debut for Parma Vecchia shortly after the end of World War II in Serie C in the adult segment and quickly made a name for himself in a higher class. In the summer of 1946, the offensive player moved to CFC Genoa in Serie A , where he made his debut in September of that year. After only one season he moved to Calcio Padova in Serie B , at the end of his first season in Veneto he rose with the club in the first division.

In 1950 Vitali moved within Serie A to AC Florence and two years later to AC Napoli . Here he placed with the team mainly in the top third of the table, but he was denied a title win. In 1957 he went to SPAL Ferrara , twice in a row he occupied the last non-relegation place with the team. He then let his career end in the lower-class league area from 1959, first with the US Pistoiese and 1961/62 with the US Città di Pontedera .

After the end of his career, Vitali turned to training teams. First stop was coach from 1966 Cosenza Calcio 1914 , then he led the AC Parma 1970 championship in the fourth-rate series D . He then moved to third division Sorrento Calcio , which he led to promotion to Serie B with a point ahead of US Salernitana . Here, however, they were in a relegation battle from the start, so that he was soon released from his duties. This was followed by short-term engagements at US Salernitana, Trapani Calcio , Vastese Calcio 1902 , Paganese Calcio and Quarrata Olimpia on the border between Italian professional and amateur fields. In 1977 he returned to Sorrento Calcio, with the club he missed qualification for the third division in a league reform in 1978. Nevertheless, he managed the team until 1980. He then took over SS Milazzo in Serie D, but after the club's financial problems, this - his last as head coach - remained only for a short time.

Vitali died in October 2011 at the age of 85.
