Paulo Bruno Exequiel Dybala (born November 15, 1993 in Laguna Larga , Departamento Río Segundo ) is an Argentine football player . The striker has been with Juventus Turin in Serie A since 2015 . His nickname is La Joya ( Spanish for The Gem ). With Juventus he won a. a. four times the Italian championship ( 2016 , 2017 , 2018 , 2019 ), three times the Italian cup ( 2016 , 2017 , 2018 ) and twice the Italian Supercup ( 2015 , 2018 ). He has been playing for the Argentina national team since 2015 .

Origin and family

Paulo Dybala was born in Laguna Larga , a small town in the central Argentine province of Córdoba . He is of Polish and Italian descent. His paternal grandfather fled Poland to Argentina during World War II , while his maternal grandmother came from the greater Naples area . His father died when Dybala was 15 years old. In addition to the Argentine nationality, he also has Polish and Italian citizenship , which is why he also had the opportunity to play for the Polish and Italian national teams . However, he chose the national team of his native country because he felt like an Argentine and it had always been his dream to play for the Argentine selection .

Career

Instituto Córdoba

Paulo Dybala's father drove his son every day to the training ground of Instituto Atlético Central Córdoba , a sports club from the provincial capital of Córdoba . After the death of his father, he played for six months in Laguna Larga and then moved to a boarding house at the training grounds of his youth club. Dybala was taken over in 2011 by his youth club in the professional department. In his first season he scored 17 goals in 38 games.

US Palermo

In the summer of 2012 Dybala moved to the Italian Serie A club US Palermo . At first he was only used as a substitute; at the end of the 2012/13 season was also the descent into the series B . In the following second division season he was used more often and rose as a champion back to Serie A. He scored five goals. His teammates Abel Hernández and Kyle Lafferty meanwhile scored a total of 26 goals and thus contributed to the promotion of the Sicilians to Serie A. Both left the club after promotion, and coach Giuseppe Iachini used Dybala as the only striker in a 4-2-3-1 system from the beginning of the following Serie A season . He liked to fall on the right wing. In 34 games in the 2014/15 season, he scored 13 goals, all with his left foot, and was the best goal setter in the league with ten assists .

Juventus Turin

Dybala has been playing for Juventus Turin since July 1, 2015 . He scored for the first time in the league for Juventus on August 30, 2015 in the game against AS Roma with the goal to make it 2-1 in the 87th minute. He scored his first international goal for the Italian record champions on February 23, 2016 against FC Bayern Munich in the last sixteen of the Champions League . In 2016 he was nominated for the Ballon d'Or for the first time . In his first and second seasons he was Italian champion with Juventus. In the league, he was the second top scorer behind Gonzalo Higuaín with 19 goals in his first year , and in the 2016/17 season he scored eleven goals in Serie A.

After Paul Pogba left Juventus in 2016, Dybala was offered the number 10 shirt. He initially kept his shirt number 21 and has finally been wearing the number 10 since the beginning of the 2017/18 season .

His contract runs until 2022.

World Cup in Russia

At the 2018 World Cup in Russia , Dybala was part of the Argentine squad . He made his World Cup debut in the second group game, in which Argentina lost 3-0 to Croatia . He came on in the 68th minute for Enzo Pérez . This was his only appearance in the tournament after Argentina were eliminated in the round of 16 on June 30 after a 3-4 loss to France.

Copa America

Dybala played at the 2019 Copa America in Brazil . In the game for third place, Dybala won with Argentina against defending champions Chile 2-1 and scored the second goal. Dybala won the Superclásico de las Américas ( 2017 , 2019 ) against Brazil for the second time with Argentina this year .
