Rodrigo Bentancur , full name Rodrigo Bentancur Colmán (born June 25, 1997 in Colonia del Sacramento or Nueva Helvecia ), is a Uruguayan football player .

Boca Juniors

Bentancur lived in Uruguay for the first 13 years of his life and moved with the two of them to Argentina after his father married an Argentinian. The 1.78 meter tall midfielder played in the youth teams for the Argentinian club Boca Juniors as early as 2009, starting in the "Sexta" . He made his debut in the first team as part of the Copa de Verano in the game against Vélez Sársfield . In 2015 he won the Argentine championship and the Copa Argentina with the club . He contributed to this that year with 18 appearances in the Primera División and six completed games in the national cup competition. A goal he did not succeed. Even in his only appearance at the Copa Libertadores 2015 , he remained goalless. In the 2016 season he played eleven first division matches (one goal), three cup games (no goal) and was used five times (no goal) in the Copa Libertadores 2016 . In the 2016/17 season he made 22 top division appearances (no goal).

Juventus Turin

In April 2017 it was announced that Bentancur would move to the Italian Serie A at Juventus Turin for the 2017/18 season. He signed a contract until 2022. As early as July 2015, the Italian club secured a purchase option to be drawn by April 20, 2017 by paying one million euros; a transfer fee of 9.4 million euros is then due for the transfer. He made his Serie A debut for the Italians on August 26, 2017, when he was substituted on for Miralem Pjanić in the 81st minute in the 4-2 away win against Genoa by coach Massimiliano Allegri .

National team

U-20 national team

Bentancur made his debut for Uruguay's U-20 national team at the U-20 South American Championship in Ecuador on January 19, 2017 . On the fourth and final match day of the same tournament in the group stage, Rodrigo Bentancur scored his first goal for the U-20s in a 3-0 win over Bolivia . In May Bentancur was appointed to the Uruguayan squad for the U-20 World Cup . During the tournament he was used in six games and reached fourth place with the team in the tournament in South Korea . In the semifinals they were eliminated against Venezuela .

A national team

On October 5, 2017 Bentancur played a game for the senior national team of Uruguay for the first time . He was substituted on for the last 25 minutes in the World Cup qualifier against Venezuela in South America . In 2018 Bentancur was appointed to the World Cup squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia by Uruguay coach Óscar Tabárez . He played his first game at a World Cup on June 15, 2018 in the first group game against Egypt . Bentancur reached the quarterfinals of the tournament with Uruguay, where they lost to France ( 2-0 ).
