Beginnings

Demiral started club football in the youth of Karamürsel İdman Yurduspor and after two trial trainings in 2010, he then played for six years for the youth division of Fenerbahçe Istanbul . Every now and then, the Turkish defender was allowed to train with the professionals of Fenerbahçe Istanbul. The people in charge of Fenerbahçe offered him a professional contract for the minimum wage , which he refused, another Turkish first division club Başakşehir FK was also interested in a professional commitment from Demiral.

Instead, he switched to Portuguese third division club AC Alcanenense in the summer of 2016 , where his old friend from Fenerbahçe and his fellow countryman played. After half a season, the second team from Sporting Lisbon (Sporting Lisbon B), who played in the second highest Portuguese football league , loaned him out for the rest of the season , where he made his league professional debut in February 2017 in the second division encounter against FC Famalicão . After the end of the season he was signed for a transfer fee of 0.2 million euros . In the 2017/18 season, at the age of 19, the defender played his only game for the first A-professional team in the third round of the Portuguese Football Cup .

Final career advancement

In August 2018 Demiral was loaned to the Turkish first division club Alanyaspor with a purchase option of 3.5 million euros. On September 17, 2018, he played his second competitive game for Alanya in the Süper Lig against Trabzonspor and celebrated his professional debut when the defender scored the 1-0 winner and became the footballer of the game.

In early January 2019 the 20-year-old Turkish international for his footballing achievements of UEFA - reporters chosen among the 50 top talents of the future, which could cause a stir in 2019. Furthermore, according to the transfermarkt.de report from January 2019, he is "one of the greatest Turkish defensive talents".

After 20 competitive games, Alanyaspor used the purchase option on January 29, 2019 and committed him to 2022. Two days later, on the last day of the winter transfer period 2018/19, changed Demiral for US Sassuolo Calcio in the Italian Serie A . Sassuolo signed Demiral on loan until the end of the 2018/19 season with a subsequent purchase obligation of seven million euros for 87.5% of the transfer rights in the event of relegation in the 2018/19 season . In April 2019 21-year-old Demiral celebrated on 30 Matchday 4: 0 win against the bottom club Chievo Verona his first goals in Serie A by the intermediate 1: 0 and 2: 0 einköpfte .

After Sassuolo finished the season in eleventh, Demiral moved permanently to the Neroverdi on July 1, 2019 . In December 2019, Demiral made his club European debut in the final group game of the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League and helped defender to a 2-0 away win against Bayer 04 Leverkusen without a goal . From December 2019 he became a regular regular player and was about to oust his teammate Matthijs de Ligt from the Juventus starting line-up. According to the association, one expects a duration of six to seven months for "[s] an optimal recovery ".

National team

U national teams

Demiral went through the Turkish youth national teams from U17 to U21 .

In March 2016, at the age of 18, he was appointed by the Turkish U19 national coach Vedat İnceefe as the youngest member of the Turkish U19 junior team for the elite round, the last qualifying round for the 2016 U19 European Championship . Demiral made his U19 international goal debut in the qualifying group match against the Israeli U19 team , thus also scoring the 1-0 winner. Participation in the final tournament was denied due to the poorer goal difference compared to the group winners and later runner-up U19 European champions 2016 Italy .

In June 2018, he led the Turkey U20s as team captain to third place at the youth tournament in Toulon by defeating the Scottish U21 selection 5-3 on penalties .

A national team

In autumn 2018 he was called up for the first time by the Turkish national coach Mircea Lucescu for the Turkish senior team for senior internationals, and in November 2018 he made his senior international debut as a substitute in the friendly against Ukraine .

In the first qualifying game for the 2021 European Championship , the then 21-year-old Demiral made his starting XI debut for the senior team under the newly appointed national coach Şenol Güneş against Albania in March 2019 . Demiral played all ten group games in qualifying and acted as defense chief. With his defensive game performances, he helped the team to miss eight games without conceding a goal and conceded three goals in the remaining games and thus they had the best defense with the fewest goals conceded in qualifying together with Belgium . In addition, Demiral ensured in June 2019 in qualifying with his goal preparation for the 1-0 lead against the group favorites and reigning world champions France (2018) , which ended in a 2-0 win without a goal and thus historically in the history of the Turkish national team the first victory against France succeeded. On the penultimate matchday against Iceland Demiral secured the 0-0 draw for his team in the closing stages by thwarting the Icelandic scoring chance on their own goal line after the goalkeeper was overcome. This draw was sufficient for the early qualification for the final tournament, thus a renewed first-time success in the history of Turkish football. He was one of the 80 best football players in the qualification and was recognized by UEFA for his defensive playing achievements with an appointment to the team of the tournament.
