Norberto Murara Neto , called Neto (born July 19, 1989 in Araxá ) is a Brazilian soccer goalkeeper who is currently under contract with FC Barcelona .

Career

In the club

Neto began his professional career in 2009 at Athletico Paranaense , where he made his first appearances. In the 2010 season he rose to become a regular goalkeeper in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. After being sent off the pitch in the first game and then banned for two games, he played almost every other game of the year and was fifth with Paranaense at the end of the season.

In January 2011 Neto moved to Fiorentina for about 3.5 million euros and received a contract until June 2015. In the second half of the 2010/11 season , he was not used because the experienced Artur Boruc asserted himself as a regular goalkeeper. In the following season , Boruc remained the number 1 of the Fiorentina , Neto only made four competitive appearances. He made his debut in the Coppa Italia on November 24, 2011 in the fourth round of the 2011/12 season in a 2-1 victory over FC Empoli , in Serie A on April 29, 2012 in the 2-0 defeat against Atalanta Bergamo . After Boruc left the club for the 2012/13 season , Emiliano Viviano was loaned from US Palermo as a replacement , who also prevailed against Neto. So he only made six league and four cup appearances. At the beginning of the 2013/14 season , the club then relied on Neto, as it did not sign any potential competitor. Neto stood between the viola posts in almost all competitive games of the season and was able to draw attention to himself with consistently good performances. For the 2014/15 season , the Romanian national goalkeeper Ciprian Tătărușanu was again committed to a serious competitor for Neto, but he was able to prevail. After Neto was a regular player for the entire first half of the season, however, he announced in winter that he would leave the club after his contract ended. This prompted coach Vincenzo Montella to appoint Tătăruşanu as the new goalkeeper and relegate Neto to the bench. It wasn't until the end of February, when Tătărușanu was injured, that Neto was reinstated. He stayed in goal until the end of the season and reached the semi-finals of the 2014/15 Europa League with Florence . He left the club on June 30, 2015.

On July 3, 2015, the Italian record champions Juventus announced the commitment of the free transfer goalkeeper, who received a contract until 2019 and should earn around 2 million euros per year. Neto is set to replace Marco Storari as representative of Gianluigi Buffon .

2017 he moved to Spain with Valencia . In two seasons Neto completed 67 games in the Primera División .

For the 2019/20 season, Neto moved to league rivals FC Barcelona for 26 million euros plus possible bonus payments of 9 million euros . He signed a contract with a term until June 30, 2023, which contains a release clause of 200 million euros, and is planned as a substitute behind Marc-André ter Stegen . During the summer preparation, Neto suffered a scaphoid fracture in his left hand and had to undergo an operation.

In the national team

Neto was nominated for the Brazilian national football team for the first time by Mano Menezes in 2010 , but was not used. Two years later, he played two games for Brazil's Olympic team at the Olympic football tournament in London . In the final they lost to the Mexicans and thus won the silver medal. In 2015, Neto was nominated again for the Brazilian national team by Carlos Dunga and was allowed to take part in the Copa America 2015 as a substitute goalkeeper . With her, however, Neto was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Paraguay .

National coach Tite (football coach) Neto was on 17 August 2018 the squad for the friendlies on 7 September 2018 against the United States men's national soccer team and on September 11, 2018 against the national team of El Salvador in the United States called. In the game against El Salvador, Neto made his first appearance for the A-selection.
