Ricard "Riqui" Puig Martí (born August 13, 1999 in Matadepera ) is a Spanish football player who is under contract with FC Barcelona .

Career

Puig joined the youth team at FC Barcelona in 2013 from Jàbac Terrassa . In the academy he went through all the youth teams. With the A-Jugend (U19), Puig won the UEFA Youth League in the 2017/18 season , contributing 3 goals in 10 appearances. He also played three times in the second team in the Segunda División in the 2017/18 season .

Due to his age, Puig moved up to the second team for the 2018/19 season, which was relegated to the third-class Segunda División B. He received a professional contract with a term until June 30, 2021, which includes a release clause of 100 million euros. On December 5, 2018, he made his debut in the professional team under Ernesto Valverde when he came on as a substitute in the 4-1 win in the Copa del Rey against third division club Cultural Leonesa . In April 2019, Puig made his debut in the Primera División and had another appearance until the end of the season, which is why he became Spanish champion for the first time. For the second team, Puig made 32 third division appearances in the 2018/19 season (27 times from the start).

In the first half of the 2019/20 season, Puig did not play a role in the professional squad under Valverde. Valverde was criticized for his dealings with Puig and Carles Aleñá and sacked in January 2020. In the first game under the new head coach Quique Setién , Puig, who had scored 2 goals in 17 third division games, was back in the matchday squad and was substituted on in the second half. He made a total of 11 league appearances by the end of the season, of which he was in the starting line-up 5 times. At the same time, Puig completed 4 other third division appearances.
