Career

In the club

Hernanes played at Unibol-PE in his youth and was discovered in 2000 by the São Paulinos , who accepted him into their youth team. For the 2005 season he moved to the professional squad for the first time and was able to play 16 games in his first season. At the end of the season he was able to win the state championship of São Paulo with his team . Despite the success he was awarded to the EC Santo André in the summer of 2006 to collect more match practice. A year later he returned to São Paulo, established himself as a regular in the team and celebrated the championship title at the end of the season. In the 2008 season he was able to repeat this success with his team and was again elected Team of the Year. In January 2009, the British daily The Times voted him number 1 in the list of the 50 best future football players.

On August 6, 2010, he signed a five-year contract with Lazio . According to media reports, the Romans paid 10 million euros for the services of the Brazilian midfielder. As a regular for the Romans, Hernanes was able to score 41 goals in 156 competitive games and win the Coppa Italia in 2013.

On January 31, 2014, Hernanes moved to Inter Milan . He signed a contract until June 30, 2018. Inter reportedly paid 17 million euros for Hernanes, who shed tears during his emotional departure from Rome.

On February 9, 2017, Hernanes moved to Hebei China Fortune for eight million euros . The transfer fee can increase to ten million euros through bonus payments. In July of that year, Hernanes was loaned to Brazil at his old place of work in São Paulo for up to a year. Due to a contractual clause, Hebei ended the loan early in 2018. After playing the championship in China with Hebei in 2018, he moved to São Paulo at the end of December 2018 for three million euros .

In the national team

In 2008, Hernanes was appointed to the Brazilian national football team for the first time . He had his first international appearance at the game against Sweden on March 26, 2008. In the semifinals of the tournament he and his team were defeated by the competition from Argentina, but won the bronze medal against Belgium in the third place match.

In 2013, Hernanes took part in the Confederations Cup with the Seleção in his home country. In the tournament, which was won by Brazil, Hernanes was in all five of his team's games, although he was only used as a substitute four times.
