Gonzalo Carneiro , full name Gonzalo Rodrigo Carneiro Méndez , (born September 12, 1995 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan football player .

Career

The 1.90 meter tall offensive player Carneiro played in youth football in 2009 in the Septima División and 2010 in the Sexta División at Defensor Sporting . In 2011 he was a member of the club's U-16s, and in 2012 he was a member of the Quinta División team. 2013 to 2014 he was part of the team in the Cuarta División and the Tercera División. He also played for the last-named youth team in 2015. In that year he was promoted to the first division's professional team. In the professional field, he made his debut on October 27, 2015 as part of the Copa Sudamericana 2015 as a substitute in the 85th minute of play for Maximiliano Gómez in the 0-0 draw against the Argentine club Club Atlético Huracán . He made his debut in the Primera División in the Apertura on October 31, 2015 in a 4-1 home win against Juventud , when he was also substituted by coach Juan Tejera and again for Gómez in the 73rd minute of the game. In the 2015/16 season he played five first division matches (no goal) and one game in the Copa Sudamericana .

In April 2018 Carneiro moved to São Paulo FC . The contract had a term of three years. On April 22, it was announced that Carneiro had tested positive for cocaine use . The sample was taken after the semi-final match against Corinthians São Paulo in the state championship on April 14, 2019. His club then suspended him. At the beginning of June 2019, the result of the test was confirmed by a positive B-sample.
