FK Drina Zvornik is a football club from the city of Zvornik in eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina . The club plays in the second-highest division of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Prva Liga RS , in the 2016/17 season . The home games take place in the Gradski Stadion Zvornik .

history

Founded in 1945

FK Drina Zvornik was founded in 1945 as a football club and was one of the first sporting associations in the city of Zvornik in the post-war period. The club was founded on the football field at that time (almost the same location as the current city stadium), attended by Nikola Mastilica, Branko Čizmar, Đorđo Tomić, Zijo Sarajlić, Feta Sabirović, Boško Kovačević, Džemko Alijagić and a captain of the former Yugoslav Army (JNA) Prokica Žigić participated. After the discussion about the need for a football club, the procurement of necessary sports equipment and clothing, as well as the vote on the naming (the choices were Zlatica or Drina ), Nikola Mastilica was elected first president. At the time, the club had the prefix FD, which stands for Fudbalsko Drustvo (German: football community ). In the beginning, the club had 5 red jerseys and a leather ball from the football club Zmaj od Noćaja from the pre-war period.

Beginnings in the post-war period

In the first year after its formation, the club did not take part in any official sporting event. Drina played friendly matches against football clubs from neighboring towns and teams from the stationed military units of the Yugoslav People's Army. The first game took place in the Serbian city of Ljubovija against the local football club, which Drina won 3-1. The team drove to away games by truck until 1955 - sometimes even later .

The press reported for the first time on March 17, 1946 on Drina, when the club lost to a guest at FK Sloboda Tuzla in its first championship game with 1: 9. In the newspaper Front Slobode No. 57 of March 24, 1946 the following was published: On Sunday March 17, FD Sloboda played in the championship game in Tuzla against FD Drina from Zvornik. Sloboda player Aleksander Avramovic-Pače broke his left leg in a collision with left defender Drinas.

The club achieved its greatest successes in the post-war period in 1949 and 1952, when the championship winner of the regional association Tuzlanski Podsavez, whose headquarters were in the city of Tuzla . By the 1st place Drina qualified for the relegation games against the winners of the regional championship from Dobojski Podsavez (1949) and from "Banjalučki Podsavez" (1952). In 1952 Drina managed to qualify against the club from Prijedor by a 3-1 in Zvornik and a 2-1 in Prijedor for the "Republička Liga" at national level. However, Drina did not play a game in this league, as the Bosnian national league was deposed by reforms in the same year.

New beginning after the fall of Yugoslavia (1992-2001)

After the collapse of Yugoslavia in 1992 was in the Republika Srpska of the Football Association of Republika Srpska established. In the 1995/96 season, the association organized the first football championship. The financially troubled club "Drina", which now for the prefix FK Fudbalski Klub (German: Football Club ) which played in the first season after the Bosnian war in the first division . In the group east of the first division, however , Drina only reached the penultimate place and was relegated to the second division at the end of the season . After a season in the second division Drina qualified as a champion in the group Bijeljina for promotion to the first division, but rose again after the 1997/98 season in the second division.

Years of second division and promotion to the Premier League (since 2002)

After rising again in 2002, Drina played first class again for a long time. With the incorporation of the clubs from the Republika Srpska in the Premijer Liga , the club played only second class from then on. In the 2009/10 season, however, the league was promoted to the new first division, the Premijer Liga, with the championship title . Thus, the FK Drina Zvornik rose for the first time since 1952 back in the top division in club football of Bosnia and Herzegovina . In the following season, however, they rose straight back to the second division .
