FK Slavija Sarajevo ( Serbian - Cyrillic ФК Славија Сарајево ) is a football club from Istočno Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina . This is the part of Sarajevo in the Republika Srpska . Today the club plays in the Prva Liga RS .
history
The club was founded in 1908 as Srednjoškolski sportski klub . The founding fathers were students of the Sarajevo high school . Due to adverse events in Austria-Hungary and the founding laws there, the first official game was not played until 1911 . The opponent was a selection of soldiers from Vienna who were defeated 4-2. In 1913 there was a break in the association after some of the members left the association. They founded the Croatian sports club SAŠK while the remaining members changed the club name to Srpski sportski klub Slavija, i.e. a Serbian sports club. After the First World War , Slavija and SAŠK were the only clubs from Sarajevo that play in the first division of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia . One of the greatest successes comes from this time, when the European runner-up Ferencváros Budapest defeated 3-0 in 1940. After the Second World War , the association was dissolved because of its national orientation.
resurrection
The association was re-established in 1993 on the initiative of some workers from Istočno Sarajevo . Until 2004 they played in the 1st league of the Republika Srpska and won the championship in 2003/04. From the following season the club played in the all-Bosnian Premijer League . The 2008/09 season concluded the Slavija with 2nd place and thus secured participation in the UEFA Europa League . You could also win the cup in the same season.

Slavija fans call themselves Sokolovi and most of them come from Istočno Sarajevo or Ilidža .
