Hwang Hee-chan ( Korean 황희찬 , born January 26, 1996 in Chuncheon ), known in German-speaking countries by the name order Hee-Chan Hwang , is a South Korean soccer player who has been under contract with RB Leipzig since July 2020 .

Career

Hwang began his career with the Pohang Steelers . In January 2015 he joined the Austrian Bundesliga club FC Red Bull Salzburg , with whom he signed a contract that ran until June 30, 2019. First, Hwang was used in the farm team , FC Liefering , in the second division . He made his debut for FC Liefering in February 2015 when he was in the starting line-up against SC Austria Lustenau on matchday 21 of the 2014/15 season and was replaced by Mathias Honsak in the 62nd minute . He scored his first goal for Liefering in April 2015 in a 4-1 win against TSV Hartberg . In August 2015 he scored two goals in a game in the second division for the first time in a 5-3 win against SV Austria Salzburg .

In December 2015, he was in the Red Bull Salzburg squad for the first time against Wolfsberger AC . He made his Bundesliga debut in the same month when he played against SV Mattersburg on matchday 19 of the 2015/16 season and was replaced by Omer Damari in the 79th minute . With Salzburg at the end of the season he was Austrian champion and cup winner.

He played his first international game for Salzburg on October 20, 2016, when he was brought into play in the 83rd minute for Fredrik Gulbrandsen in the Europa League against OGC Nice . On October 23, 2016, Hwang scored his first two goals in the top Austrian league in a 5-1 win against SKN St. Pölten . On November 3, 2016, after being substituted on for Fredrik Gulbrandsen in the 62nd minute, he scored both goals for Red Bull Salzburg in a 2-0 win against the French in the second leg against Nice.

In the 2016/17 season he again won the championship and cup double with Salzburg. In the final of the ÖFB Cup against SK Rapid Wien , which Salzburg won 2-1, Hwang scored the goal to make it 1-0.

In the 2017/18 season he reached the semi-finals in the Europa League with Red Bull Salzburg. Hwang scored two goals: in the 3-0 win against Vitória Guimarães in the group stage and in the 4-1 win against Lazio in the quarter-final second leg . In addition, Hwang was again Austrian champion with Salzburg that season.

On August 31, 2018, Hwang switched to the 2nd Bundesliga for Hamburger SV on loan until the end of the 2018/19 season . He played his first game in the second-highest German division on September 15, 2018, when he played against 1. FC Heidenheim for the full playing time. On September 18, 2018, after being substituted on at half-time, he scored his first goal for Hamburg in the 2nd Bundesliga in a 1-0 win against Dynamo Dresden . By the end of the season, Hwang had made 20 second division appearances under head coaches Christian Titz and Hannes Wolf , in which he scored 2 goals. Meanwhile, Hwang was sidelined due to an injury sustained at the 2019 Asian Cup and an injury sustained in the league. At the end of the season, HSV took 4th place and missed a direct return to the Bundesliga . Hwang was classified by the kicker with an average grade of 4.09 as the lowest grade player in the entire league.

For the season 2019/20 returned Hwang back to Salzburg. For Salzburg he played 27 Bundesliga games that season, in which he scored eleven goals. He also made six appearances in the UEFA Champions League , in which he scored three goals, and two appearances after moving to the Europa League. With Salzburg he again won the league and cup double.

For the 2020/21 season, the South Korean moved to Germany a second time, this time to the first division club RB Leipzig , where he received a contract that ran until June 2025. Hwang was already the 19th player to move from Salzburg to Leipzig.

National team

Hwang took with South Korea's 23 national team U- on Olympic football tournament in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro in part.

In September 2016, he made his debut for the senior national team when he came on for Ja-Cheol Koo in the 79th minute of the World Cup qualifying match against China . With South Korea he took part in the 2018 World Cup. South Korea was eliminated as third in Group F in the preliminary round. Hwang played in all three games in his country, in two of which he was in the starting line-up.

In the same year he also took part in the Asian Games with the U-23 team of South Korea . With South Korea he won the tournament. Hwang was used in six of the seven games; he scored a goal in the 6-0 preliminary round win against Bahrain , in the 4: 3 win against Uzbekistan in the quarter-finals he scored the winning goal in extra time and in the final against Japan he scored a goal for South Korea's 2-1 win in extra time at.

Hwang was in South Korea's squad for the 2019 Asian Football Championship . During the tournament, Hwang was used in four of the South Koreans' five games and scored a goal. In the quarter-final defeat against the eventual winner Qatar , Hwang was not used.
